I'm confused
Why is the Ecuador government keeping him? They let him stay with them in the embassy for years he don't gotta pay rent?

Assets tend to be employed on a spare no expense basis. This can also imply that some other organization is putting him up there. When it comes to the big game of geo-political dominance money is in fact a trivial matter in comparison to objectives and power over institutions.

Rent? Why are they keeping him? Do you not care about him at all?

He has been in the same building since 2012. Imagine being forced to stay in the same building and never go outside for 4 years straight. There are much more important issues at stake here than rent

Some Embassies have balconies and interior gardens.
