So I got myself 20% warn so I would be less distracted to get published by July 31st. My research adviser needs two papers published to get tenure after six years. That's not a lofty goal.

I'm trying to get the second paper published now, she's had this paper 80% done since before she even got her current job and has sat on it. Her tenure packet is due something like January 15th.

She opens every meeting with gossip about her fellow administrators and how she's soooooo mistreated because she's a woman, and how they're shitting on her because she's a woman. Totally unwilling to take responsibility for her own time management when she sat on publishable data for almost SIX FUCKING YEARS.

Normally I'd say getting the last 20% on a paper isn't a big deal..... except that it took me over a month to get trained on our DLS instrument, and when she finally trains me on it the very first thing she does is shake the standard we use. If you're unfamiliar with DLS, you know that air bubbles in your solution is a GIANT GIANT no-no. As in, this is one of the very first things you will be warned about for getting shitty data.

So I quickly realized that she both doesn't know how to use, and doesn't know how to interpret DLS data and no amount of me showing her reviews on the subject will convince her otherwise, so it's unlikely it will get published even after we submit.

Also learned last week that she regularly goes out drinking with students who shit on me behind my back instead of actually talking to me about problems, so even though I'm much more productive than them her opinion of me is in the toilet, which is a bit important since I'm eventually going to need a letter from her. Turns out she gossips with them more than the 50 year old waitresses I used to work with.





anyway end ranting. I feel a bit better now.

Hire him to take care of your boss.

I found out my department offers an alternative to people in my situation. I can essentially write an 80 page research paper instead of a research thesis.

Once she doesn't get tenure I'll just switch to that option, that way when I get interviewed by wherever I go next, be it a Ph.D. or M.D., I can say I left the lab because she didn't get tenure instead of telling them she doesn't know what she's doing so I left.

inb4 SJW scum defend her stance on the mistreatment of women.

It's unfortunate you have to waste so much time and effort on her.

I really thought she was legit. She had some really impressive publications in her post-doc >_<
