Im an American and I can say that I have only ever ran to something. And that something was an Oreo McFlurry.

Every time I find a bee or wasp nest near me by surprise (within 30 feet), I sprint!

Saw a squad car through the trees, was smoking pot, looked at my friend and said "cop", then bolted it through the woods.

We were like 14 lol.

last time was when i was on a solo bushwalk. it was taking too long & i was noided that the route markers were fake. after a few hours i saw something that made me turn around and piss bolt all the way back. was probably nothing but i stay noided
