So I run a software sales team and we got acquired by a major company about 2 years ago. Prior to getting bought out, we were growing 30% per year and about to go from $50 million to $100 million in possibly 2 years. It was awesome. 6 months into me working there is when we got acquired.

About 80% of the staff was fired within the first few months. Our office went from 200 people taking up the entire floor of a DC Suburb high rise to now being in the same office but with literally 20-30 people in the office any given day. No one on my team was fired, fortunately. We still have yet to not hit over 100% of our quota or well beyond it in a quarter, so we're doing fine.

Our office admin wanted to have an ice cream party today so she sent out a group email, then went out and got a bunch of ice cream, and ice cream sandwiches and drumsticks and stuff. Literally 3 people showed up, and 2 of those 3 just grabbed an ice cream sandwich and left. I felt so bad, she's really nice but her job must really suck now.

Anyone else work in a setting like this? I'm only in the office 1 day a week and the rest I work from home, but this is so sad :(

That sucks. Perhaps you should thank her so at least she will know that somebody appreciated it.
Not me, though. I work in a hot kitchen all day.

the reason those men did that was because of misogyny, they don't respect your admin because she is a woman, but they will gladly take her ice cream.

I probably would have just taken the ice cream and leave.
I'd stay for about three seconds before I got uncomfortable waiting for somebody to come be social and talk and then I'd be all like
wait a minute, I hate talking to people. back to work + some ice cream :D

I work at a FTSE 25 firm, we're huge so everything is done internally. We take over firms, not the other way around. Work is demanding, but it's worth it.

Im around the corner from you in Maryland and i work out of an aerial lift truck all day. My team of 8 has 6 rookies and the other seasoned guy bought a gps jammer and nobody can tell if he is working or not. On the brite side of things i work about 15 hours a day and love the overtime

Wealth is relative, but yeah I mean I'm very happy with where I am with my life. I just felt awful for our receptionist/admin lady and it sucks to see so many employees so disengaged.
