so i pulled out my SNES from the closet from about 2-3 years of being played (which It worked fine before)

I seem to be getting these squares on the screen with any game that I try to play. I did try to clean out the system as best as I can but it did not help.

this is kinda what the picture looks like

Is the Nintendo shot/dead? I am plugging it into my HD TV which idk if that makes a difference but I thought ive played it on a wide screen tv before as well.

any help is appreciated it :P I tried google a bit but thought id see if anyone here still plays the old systems

If you already cleaned it, then it's probably something dying, sorry to say. :(

Sounds like a dirty cartridge more than the system itself.

It sounds to me like your cartridge is dirty, or possibly corroded. Take a Q-tip and dampen it a little with some rubbing alcohol, then gently sweep the cartridge's board. Be careful, only do it lightly, but make sure to do it thorough enough to actually clean it. Afterwards, use the dry side to wipe off excess alcohol and let it dry for a moment, then try it out. If your game is corrupted, you may have to buy a new one, but I highly doubt that's the case here at all, it sounds like it's just dirty. Hope it works!

I assumed this was more or less what he meant by trying to clean it out, but that's probably a really stupid assumption on my part.

Yeah haha.

"Clean out" I'm sure he blew into it a few times and thought that was it.

I remember those days all too well.

I know, I'll cover the small metal contacts with spittle so they can get a nice coat of rust, that should solve my problems. :P
