Before i found the wifey this was the technique i used to fairly decent success.

"Hi i've been standing over there (points to where i came from) racking my brain for something smart or funny to say, but I'm no good at dropping lines. You are so pretty I just decided to come over and talk to you."

Make sure to blush if you can and act shy, gets them right on the cute button a lot of the time. Bare minimum you avoid the negative "NO I DONT WANT A DRINK OR TO DANCE GOSH CANT I COME TO THE BAR WITHOUT GETTING HIT ON" shtick.
