Truly casting sucks on monks. You run out of mana ALL the time and your actions are extremely low and thus your total dmg and contribution to the team goes down the drain. I definetely recommend staves.
i agree with what xue said here. i have played caster monk many times and if you will be doing it you will run out of mana pretty quick. most of the time when going caster monk i switch at around lvl 30 to full caster and go straight melee until then.

also with what blue said, since you already went swords and invested money in that, i would go staffs only because they are cheaper and you will only be using them on one char class. it would also be better to save your money for some strength robes for when you pass to ninja.
