You can only use the heal items OUTSIDE of battle, i.e. walking around the maze. Thats atleast what I have found true for using them on myself.
To use them on yourself quickly ctrl+click the item = used / heal'd instantly.
As to getting more then 100+ per fish thats quite fathomable seeing fish lvl's can go quite extensive (ive summoned a 55 just for shits n giggles) as well as you can get higher rods along with the concept of fishing/cooking proficencies.
I assumed everyone knew not to click as fast as you can lol. I am pro counter snag / flame, but at this time find it pointless to do it.

i think everyone clicks massively, I do it myself lol when I'm not using the auto click function
ya it seems rather pointless to fish/cook except to maybe bring up one's proficiency in it. the heal is minimal, sort of like the comfreys... I see 400+ comfreys on the market for 30 fg... who the hell is going to pay 30 fg for a tiny bit of heal?
