Me and Patl just tested the bonus on a lvl 25 map with +7 treasure chests. Nothing worth picking up , it increased the amount of junk but thats about it.

The more people int he game the more drops, a chest in a group of 5 can hold 30-40 drops, so that would be 60-80 which just increases the chance of good drops
