there really aren't very good ways of paying people not to do something w/o an enforceable interest in collateral of some kind
that's obviously not going to happen, so the way i see this working is if you set a date/end point at which their performance would be complete, i.e. must be accepted to guild and earn 100gps and do at least 50 mqs or whatever
but then if the point is for the person to become friends with the guild you might need to require (e.g.) a certain amount of time on vent, and for that to be productive you'd have to require the person to contribute to conversation...
and if you write in those terms you're getting into some pretty deep water: are there certain hours of the day that don't count? at what point can you say that someone contributes to a conversation? how do you resolve disputes?
and most importantly, WHAT IF ALL THE CURRENT UA MEMBERS ARE EPIC VENT DODGERS?
