well yeah that's true and that's why i dont like it anymore. it used to take some effort to have a decent prof for casting so that not everyone played as a caster in catas (full caster catas were rare and really awesome) now its different. i've hit 5 wind prof in 2 climbs 1-71 solo as a warlock last season so it wasnt that difficult but to splash more often you needed like 10-12+ .
talking about the melee items i gotta say that i liked the new str/dex ratio system in the beginning but then i realized that some weapons are overpowered (daggers).. i mean have you ever seen anyone with over 1k+ average dmg as a melee before the new patch? i've seen only few guys and they were using swords like 60s with his 244ee. now you can hit easily 800+ wit 130ee mq dagger which is too damn lame..
i feel like the ratios would work better if they were applied to the weapons in a more balanced manner. logically, a dagger is all about dexterity and a club is all about strength, but when u compare the usage level of the weapons, it doesn't make sense. i think the ratios should be adjusted to favor weapons that aren't used as much. for example, daggers, swords, and axes were very common, so they should have lower ratios (closer to the 50/50 point). clubs (a little less widespread since they can't be used at the higher classes) should be around the 75/25 range, and heavy weapons can be towards an 80 or 90 point ratio. i think this would balance the weapons a little bit and give us an incentive to use the heavier weapons; u can use the common stuff and have the lower ratio, or use less common stuff and have the higher ratios. on the other hand, the overpowered daggers are the only way to keep up with the big bump to casting...
anyway, i'm sure it wouldn't be perfect and would need tweaking, but it's just my idea
