I do the first 10 points in vita (hc) (sometimes I do 100 points in vita if I'm making a tanker).
Then dex depending on wep. 70 if its daggers, 80-90 if its axe, 100 clubs, 120 swords. Rest to str.

Though lately my gear's been giving me quite a lot of dex so I just pump everything in str.

It's more expensive because it's better

I always go for ~100 dex, it's not only for crits but also lowers damage when monsters crit on you

Dexterity: Increases your chance to critical hit, and damage dealt when you critical hit. It also reduces damage when enemies critical hit you. The effects are subject to a diminishing return formula.
