For transmutes... you extract the essences from muting any items magical or above. The higher the Tier (1-14), the harder it is to mute.
If you want to reroll an item, the essence must be of the same Tier as well.
It'll be a long time to build up proficiency to mute high lvl items, so start out on the easy tier 1 stuff (rusted, splintered, tattered, patched, cracked) and work your way up.
start low magical values too, best thing to do is start on rare tier I items
