You need to gain more prof(easiest way) to catch higher then they 50 life each tier. Don't forget you can cook as well(doubles the life on the fish if you succeed).

The easiest thing in my eyes to do when fishing is ofc, just fish and get prof. The first couple profs are easy, it gets harder after 5 i would say.
Try and get some experience cooking (lmk if u need help) and then i will do so...

Its not the most complicated skill, by far the most boring IMO !!!!
But, you said you want to quit LS... IMO just skill for a bit, just get profs in those instead of slashing
