Imo heavy weapons are better.

Yes they attack twice as slow but they do double to damage. And critical hits can reach up to 7k (highest I have seen)

7k damage can give you the chance to 1 hit some monsters meaning less damage taken to yourself and generally that means higher mcc's

Heavy t3 even with no mods will 1 hit everything from 1 to 5. If you have 30 to 40 str at lvl 5 you can basically do the same thing.

The main advantage of a heavy is in cata, you get a huge bonus there. Say on 6 mobs, you need 6 actions for full exp gain, with a heavy on, all you need is 1 or 2 actions.
