I know how hard it is getting decent gear/getting into climbs when you start, hopefully this will help him get ahead

Will do. I have been hunting one too. Typical though lol it seems as soon as I wanted to find one I have not seen one since.

Can anyone tell me how to catch better fish? I was looking at the market and they have salmon and bass fish types. But I have only ever seen/caught sardines. Do you need to have a certain proficiencies level to catch better fish or is it that I need a better rod or is it just luck that you catch better types, whats the deal?

Yes you need higher profs to catch the better fish. There is a chart somewhere showing what can be caught at what lvl...

you have to fish at lvl 5 or better to get herring, 10 or better for cod, 15 or better for trout etc. all you will catch for your first few levels are sardines, and if you ever get to lvl 15, you can then fish in the well which grants you the power to not catch sardines anymore

If you can fish in the well you should be able to well n the pond. Or at least go for a swim....
