The best charm for welling is Lightning, because well monsters are water based, so lightning is super effective.
The best charm for arena is Water, because it floods monsters out - of the arena - the fastest.
The best charm for catacombs is Fire, because it lights the way you need to go very well.
All other charm types are useless.
Vitality is the best stat, next to intelligence, for melee, because you want to live a long time - that's why you use vitality, and you want to know where to hit the monster to make your weapon more effective - that's why you use intelligence.
Dexterity is hands down the best stat for casting. The lack of int for robes on most classes (because int isn't as useful on robes as it is on scales or plates) means you need a lot of dexterity if you want to cast, so you can be nimble enough to avoid the monsters.
The best melee weapons are Clubs - because they cripple the monster faster if you have enough intelligence and hit it in the right place - like the knees.
The best casting weapons are longswords, so that when you need to melee a mob after you run out of mana, you don't need a lot of intelligence to know where to hit it, because you have a higher chance of beheading it with a longsword, moreso than a sword even, because it is longer, making it easier to reach the neck of the monster.
I haven't found the best character to start with yet - I'm an alchemist, so I didn't really bother taking the time to check.
If anyone tells you anything different, they are obviously ill-informed.
