I can solo till 60-65 without a problem.  I prefer to go to the catacombs at lvl 20ish, but it's not because I have to, I just like it better (especially when there's a healer) - it depends on whether there are any good groups or not. 

There isn't anything on the market much better than what I already have, unless I have 750fg+ per item.  I seem to have significantly better gear than most people I come across while playing.

If the lag in LS doesn't stop, I'm going to get really angry.  I've died 3 times in the past two days just because of the lag - and it's interesting how you can die when no monster ever showed up.  And how you can die, but not hit the monster when it gets really laggy.  And this is why I will absolutely never ever play hardcore.
