That error typically is caused by bad/corrupt drivers. Did u install any new hardware or software recently? I can help you fix it but will need some more info.
What operating system?
Can you get into device manager and see any problem devices/hardware?
Vista Home... approximately 2006-2007
No hardware installed unless a 16gb mem stick is classed as hardware.
Installed Prism??? [It was a convertor... converts MP4's / MKR's etc... was converting them into AVI's to help neighbour watch movies on USB with his DVD player]
Uninstalled the Prism btw.
Also did a "System Restore" back to the 14th [last windows update] August.
Have access to "Device Manager" ... just not certain where the most likely place to find out about corrupt drivers.

ECP Printer Port (LPT1) [cannot access in safe mode]
Processors [BOTH] [cannot access in safe mode]
Sound [cannot access in safe mode]

Basically everything else is working properly... and since I can not access others, I am sure it will be one of those...
