a hat trick is where one player scores 3 goals in one game. traditionally, people throw their hats on the ice when this happens. it's called a natural hat trick when the player scores all 3 without anybody else scoring a goal in between them, and it's a gordie howe hat trick when they get a goal, assist, and get into a fight in the same game
