what would be the best way to mediate this trade if it did happen? I wouldnt trust the "i'll put the items on the market and you buy them" method

Unfortunately that's about the only method, however there are a few tips I can give you.

If you have an instant message program (or the JSP IM) you can help setup the trade, and of course message each-other in game before anything gets listed helps a lot.

Know the stats of the item that is getting posted and have your search box setup. Have him divide it all up in a way that wont put things up for 1fg and you should be fine.

I don't think there are any great ways of mediating LS trades, although I will talk to James from PvM as he is a mediator and see if he has any more advice. I will shoot you a PM later once I do.

what about if I joined his guild or vice versa and its traded directly through guild tradeing?

You can do that also, keep in mind if you leave the guild, your Guild Points in the list disappear, and when you rejoin you will be at zero, so have him join ours if you wish.

There is a lot of speculation if this is considered dodging the market place fee, but since guild transfers and vaults cost money, the fee gets to Paul that way, and as far as I know it is perfectly fine. Don't quote me on it, I will check with james on that also and see what his advice is.
