Unless you're rich and you can afford really nice offcast stuff your two options for gear sets are as follows:

Daggers + axes with dex gear

Swords + staves with str gear/dex gear (or you can offcast monk and skip staves)

Will need a caster set with both outcomes.

daggers/axes are typically the preferred gear sets as they can get you through headhunter should you make it that far, but swords and staves are MUCH cheaper

If you go daggers/axes you will be using daggers on feeder, daggers on samurai, axes on pally, daggers on monk daggers on ninja

If you go swords/staves you will be using swords on feeder, samurai, and pally, staves on monk and swords on ninja

So it kinda depends what you already have and what you are missing :)

Now that I passed to monk, please let me know if i understood correctly.
I can use the same EE Daggers and Dex Charm but need Robes with dex now.
Is my understanding correct?
What skills should I be investing on? Multistrike + DoubleStrike or should I stick with the two Monk abilities?

for the soloing though.. I always go for Powerstrike (any melee class) + Doublestrike (monk/ninja), this works best because up to lvl 71 with /set easy 1 command you face max 2 monsters which doublestrike kills pretty easily and 71+ you face up to 3 monsters where combination of Doublestrike vs 2 + Powerstrike vs remaining one is just perfect. I solo monk/ninja with EE robe and have healing gear in inventory (int dagger, int robe, heal mastery charm) to switch when I summon /whistle 1 mob to heal myself fully even with low mana on ninja. This gets me from 71-79 in like 1 hour if I'm unlucky with low shrinables drop
