You'd only be back cause of wearing robes, not your dext also.

Dext affects how often you crit strike, to some extent how much damage your crits do, and defense vs melee crits.

Monk's are meant to be melee characters, but some people use them as casters.
I'd go melee personally, so you'd be using strength//dext gear and EE daggers still that way.
