My grandparents got that for my uncle (who is about 7 years older than I am; class of 80 and I'm class of 87). I loved it, but then I was about 7 when I played it.
I don't remember much of that stuff, but I do remember the hard freeze of Christmas 1983. We were in Florida at the time on vacation, and the orange growers were in a panic. We kept in touch with family in (southern) Illinois and Missouri, and found out that our house was one of the few in Illinois that still had water and electricity. Luckily, we had left a key hidden in case of emergency. When we got home we had an impromptu family reunion with a few relatives who would have gone weeks without water/power had we not invited them to crash at our place.
After that we moved to Berlin, so I don't really know about things that happened in the States when I was young.

Got up to 79 today, low of about 58. Best time of year in AZ!
