Yes it does matter what level you are.  Say you are level 30, and tried to well a level 50 item, it would whoop your ass (more than likely, even with a solid team) because the monster and item level are closely related.  Best bet is to well stuff AT OR UNDER your level, and never over. 

As far as unqeuipping, that hasn't been implemented yet, and yes it is annoying.  Gotta replace it with another item (even a junk temp item) or reroll back to level 1 (which will cause everything to un-equip)

One bit of advice, find level 1 items (tier I/II/III) with +Extra Equipment Slots and give them to your mules to wear.  This way they gain more inventory, and you won't need to worry about them wearing your gear either.

Also, a level 50 item meaning XIII? So if I'm level 25 it would be completely fine for me to well my low level whites like I-VI ?

Try doing items that are 5-10 levels lower than your character level... this way you will also gain some experience for that item

If you do items that are in range or 10 levels above, they will be harder and not gain anymore experience than an item that is 5 levels lower than you.

If at level 1... you find a well fast, collect up TierI items and well them if your group can kill fast.
You will all gain like 3-5% experience on your XP bar.... do this until you reach level 3... at this stage you
want to well TierII items to gain best experience... as long as your group can kill fast... when you reach level 6-7
stop welling those and start welling TierIII items to benefit the experience...

If it is not fast killing, it maybe better for your group to explore maze.

Hi All...

Well... I am going to admit that I have found a new respect for Heavy Weapons... well Battleaxes' at the moment.
During levels 15-41 mostly solo'ing Hardcore so far (still grinding) with my Guardian... I have been using the same
weapon all the way there:

Magical alloy battleaxe
Level Req: 15
Damage: 131 to 158
+40% Enhanced Effect

Now my build is not the standard guardian build, but from placing stats into strength, I have found that I deal better
damage with the Battleaxe during these levels... maybe I can make a Heavy Mapping guide... considering I am also
using Longswords on guardian at lower levels (1 - 15) ... and after writing out the mapping guide... I noticed
that Longswords can be used from:

Guardian
Samurai
Paladin

Then use of Spear:

Monk
Ninja

Warlock = Staff ONLY

Headhunter = Battleaxe

Oh well... maybe I will come up with something... I like to dream
