/EDIT: Also, why can't I unequip some items? It's very annoying to have to replace gear when I simply want to send over my lvl 0 equip to another char. Are the characters afraid of nudity?
Yes it does matter what level you are. Say you are level 30, and tried to well a level 50 item, it would whoop your ass (more than likely, even with a solid team) because the monster and item level are closely related. Best bet is to well stuff AT OR UNDER your level, and never over.
As far as unqeuipping, that hasn't been implemented yet, and yes it is annoying. Gotta replace it with another item (even a junk temp item) or reroll back to level 1 (which will cause everything to un-equip)
One bit of advice, find level 1 items (tier I/II/III) with +Extra Equipment Slots and give them to your mules to wear. This way they gain more inventory, and you won't need to worry about them wearing your gear either.
