depends how you look at it. when you solo all drops are yours so if a good item drops you have a 100% chance to get it but in a group you can have as low as a 1/5 chance to get a good item that drops

if a cata group farms ambush and explores the whole time chances are a good drop will show up but you don't have a good chance of getting it

More items will drop in groups but then everyone has a chance to grab them.
