...okay so I was in game talking to smokey about whatever info i could glean from him trying to optimize my game. And we were talkin about how to build a fighter. I started talking about stat points and said I like dex better (because it boosts crit def[i was using axes]) and increases attack speed, he said that's not true only weapon type does that. I said well I saw it in a guide and he asked me to pm it to him cause he doesn't recall seeing that anywhere. I'd like to hear more pro opinions on this:
You would be better to look up the updated notes about weapons and their ratios FIRST.
Then work on the characters STATS that would benefit your weapon of choice.
So... we take a look @ weapons and ratios:
http://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=3then we look @ character classes and their stats
http://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=2then we look @ Stats (Game basics)
http://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=1Strength: Increases the base damage and *critical hit chance for melee weapons by the ratio for that particular weapon.
Dexterity: Increases the base damage and *critical hit chance for melee weapons by the ratio for that particular weapon.
Vitality: Increases the base defense for armor. For every 25 stat points you have in vitality, you gain +1 to Life Regen. Every Level Up you will gain an amount of life equal to your base vitality.
Intelligence: Increases the base effect for charms. For every 25 stat points you have in intelligence, you gain +1 Mana Regen. Every Level Up you will gain an amount of mana equal to your base intelligence.
* Critical hits are subjected to a diminishing return ratio for base stats. Bolded and Red... "subjected to a diminishing return"... Paul has stated awhile ago that this is based around
the LOWER stat in the ratio... but no one knows what amount will give you the best results... hence axes crit more than daggers.
Now... only Vitality indicates "base defense for armor" = physical only... and intelligence = magical defense (but does not state this in description)
Personally... Axe for fighter as you can put your first 10 points into dexterity and hit ratio from the start of the build... but... it has also been
recognised that you can just pump one stat and still deal the same average dmg throughout climb.
