according to bob berman, my favorite cosmologist, knowing pi to a mere 39 places is good enough to calculate the circumference of the universe to the diameter of an atom?
einstein pointed out that a river's straight-line distance from source to sea, when devided by it's loopy path over the ground is roughly equal to pi.
Ooo intriguing, look what I found as a consequence:
A value truncated to 11 decimal places is accurate enough to calculate the circumference of the earth with a precision of a millimeter
Pi is an irrational number. This means it is incapable of making sensible decisions. This has led some mathmeticians, admittedly all male, to propose the controversial theory that pi is female.
Can't wait for pi day!
edit: If you take 10 million random digits, statistically on average you would expect 200 cases where you get 5 digits in a row the same. If you take 10 million digits of Pi, you get exactly 200.
