I had a really rough couple of days at work...like really hard..
I come home and I want to distract myself playing ls...
I well a little then I join a couple games when I know people..

Everyone s happy to have a healer ingame.
But are they ready to let the healer get some drops????
Pfft... ya right....

I'm sorry for the rest of the nice people, but I'm really done dong catacombs with my mage above level 20.
Done.
No more.
Cause just when I need to relax and have fun, some gready noobs won't let me grab a single shrinable with my weller that I am wasting levels that I could spend doing more wells...

no shrinables?
no healing.

The little patience I had after those 2 days at work, noobs took it away.

poor marie, lets cheer you up with some family spirit runs next time. things may be grabbed, but not regular item drops

but i like this rant ( you are on a good way to become the next Jamesina :P )
a lot because it perfectly matches the bad situation for healers in most catacomb games (especially with strangers)

adding my view on it:

on the one hand, you are the most essential character for long lasting runs, without the healing it would be over after a couple of minutes.
but on the other, one does not get the reward for it but is rather punished.

usually, you are extremely occupied with checking peoples life at the very bottom of the page and heal them
+ look up to your own life/mana bars now and then to be sure you are not dying yourself.
(which can happen quite often as well especially during EPs)

there is not much time left usually to relax for a moment and check for item drops.
and if you do, one can be sure they are already taken before you even realize them, especially in case of usable/valuable stuff.

the common players just slash the monsters one by one moving a little lower to see/get the items whenever he likes to.
a healer is far away from these regions and has no chance no compete against this, but has to rely on the others to keep some items for them.

in reality, this is different. people grab anything they can, whatever it is. and if its crap, they just trash it to have enough space left for later.
the healer can not even get the crappy shrinables because either they are taken or the driver resumes so fast that you have no chance
to get up there and grab them, but find yourself on the map already again.
if you run low on life/mana, most people do not even bother to send you a comfrey or so but rather keep them
even if it was a mana comfrey they grabbed away in the very same run.

during the non heal times, you switch to attacking a monster as close as possible to the others at the very bottom
to get some experience at least and have the chance to heal them again if necessary.
if you dont, you fall back massively in the experience and do not even have the chance to take items as you are considered as leecher.
this is not quite fun either. you see others with 1-2k crits and oneself has fabulous crits of 200 or so hitting for a 50 average on the int dagger/staff.

there is just hardly any chance to concentrate on the items and especially healers have to recover lots of mana.
usually, in a party of feeder class characters with the same experience basics the healer is the one who will fall back
because he looses a lot of clicks when switching from weapon to charm and between the players life bars.

as a result, in public runs the healer is always the stupid one because he doesnt get items, gets lower experience and has to regen the most.
and as the reward for your kindness, it doesnt happen seldom that a healer is left behind because he was not able to regen fast enough or gets out of the level range

this is the exact reason why i always tried to play my 13 mages with people from the guild or at least 2 or 3 friends.
i would never have had the patience to play as healer without having friends and guildies in the runs.

if there are 1-2 strangers who grab, you can just warn them or kick them the next time.
people will care for you more and make sure you get experience, items or do extra runs if you fall out of the level range.

some weeks back i did very few runs as healer in public runs to test the gear.
it was a pain every time with the mechanisms described above and therefore i wont do this anymore either, but play with guildies/friends only.

catacombs are extremely fast, but you are not that much slower as a solo mage and especially you get item drops.
as a result, if the common mage has the chance to play catacombs and get nothing but pain,
or play solo with their offensive gear and get the exp + drops the choice isnt that hard.

and then people wonder and cry why there are hardly any healers in catacomb runs....

the reason is that the casters are tired of being their idiots. and this is massively the fault of the most melee characters and their behaviour themselves.
they have to learn to honor the healers and their role more in order to get the better result for themselves as well in the end with long lasting runs.
without healers, objectives are hardly impossible to complete and runs will be less effective.

unless people realize this and change their behaviour, the catacomb healers will be a dying class and hide in the arena or in guild runs
which would be a high loss to the game.
