Just But actions work differently on Heavy Weapons, No you will not lose Exp.. that would be stupid

exp grows and shrinks with actions

i believe and im not 100% sure that its a ratio of actions compared with ability to act..
so even thou heavy weapons are slower as long as you act every 2 seconds you get the same exp as acting every 1 sec on reg weapons..

so using heavy weapons should not effect you

i use both heavy and reg so thats just from what i see in use ..
