There is no difference between male/female, so use whichever you prefer.
EXP gear is not really recommended, because as a mage your main job in catacombs is to HEAL.
You want either INTELLIGENCE or HEAL MASTERY on your weapon and armor.Also try to find a HEAL CHARM close to your level with ENHANCED EFFECT, and upgrade it every 10 levels or so. You can also find a INT or HEAL MASTERY charm and use it in the MAIN CHARM SLOT, and put your HEAL CHARM in the ACCESSORY SLOT. The only active mods that work in the ACC SLOT is ENHANCED EFFECT.The reason you are leveling slowly is due to being a mage, they naturally level slower than others because you are constantly switching from attacking monsters to healing allies.
Try to keep your ACTIONS up, even though you do low damage, you should still try to click each monster when you are not healing. This alone will help you level faster!Hope this helps!
