i have a little question about the english language (for those who dont know, im german)

do i say to address someone with name or by name???

e.g. they address each other with pet names - or - they address each other by pet names

ok is there a native speaker of english arround who has a clue about this question?
please... it is for a presentation in my english studies and my oral performance (not what you think :P ) counts about 40% of the grade...

Engrish is my native language, although I am no grammatics pro.


We say "you address them by name" and not "you address them with name"

oooh I didnt read it right,

but I'd say address eachother WITH pet names
but you address eachother by name

i found another forum and they said "to address s.o. by his nickname" so i think by pet name is correct too :)
