Is there a way to distinguish a caster mob from a melee one, other than the dmg you take?

The dmg you give them too.
Less life, most likely a caster mob.

More life, most likely a melee mob.

When I say that, I don't necessarily mean their LIFE, but the amount of hits they can take.

I was wondering if I should, but I've never done melee till I came to HC.

Seems I'd have enough mana for like.. 2-3 heals. Seems pointless.
