The spending isn't the problem. It's misplaced spending. A trillion dollars in Iraq. A trillion in Afghanistan. Five-hundred and fifty billion a year to the military, not counting R&D projects and emergency funds. Meanwhile you have a GOP candidate that says he would freeze all federal spending except to the military and veteran affairs, which is a big FU to your normal citizens.
A better plan would be to redirect spending to education, infrastructure, and energy development. All projects that would create American jobs and help stabilize the economy.
Again, spending isn't the problem, it's where the money is going and how much is going where.
I'm going to have to disagree
We are spending way too much in areas that don't need it but....
We are 10.6 Trillion in debt! (Including the 700B we just acquired)
Let me put it this way
If the government was a business they would be court marshalled, tried, and placed in jail after declaring bankrupcy about 50 years ago...
I'm not opposed to borrowing every now and then and defciet spending is inevitable
but we need to create surpluses to cover that - we havn't run a significant surplus in many years (even clinton's surpus was pennies on the dollar to our debt)
We've been in debt ever since the Revoluntionary War ( Ithink)
And something retarded like 9% of all revenue goes to pay inerest - juts interest thats 250+Billion dollars in interest payments
Not sure if my facts are right but I still know we have a serious problemI say we buckle down and get ready for a rough 10+ years
We are going to have to confront this sometime so might as well grab it by the horns and take our chances now as opposed to later
It will only get worse This post was edited by DevilWithin17 on Sep 28 2008 01:30pm
