Drop quantity calculation has been rewritten and re-factored to be more dependent on the relative difficulty of the monster you are fighting (translation: more drops for harder mobs!)

if you do less dmg the mob is then harder for you to kill

so if you are using a lvl 35 100ee weapon like gun is at lvl 55+ you find better items?

he seems to be having the same luck that rex is... not taking away from you and your drops I'm just trying to figure this out lol
