it might work, i used to play caster samurai, although i think its rather a solo built.
from my experience i would rather advise to play hybrid indeed with offensive cast in the higher levels if you decide to cast.
the early and mid early levels till 30 are faster with melee usually because you will lack mana and int.
some ee weapons and stat gear can be bought easily and helps more in catacomb runs than being out of mana after 3-4 waves.
good mana regen gear is extremely important later to speed you up, you will have to regen a LOT

a healer can work as well, although its not very efficient because of this lack of casting stats.
you depend on the catacombs then and cant play alone if necessary. still, even in the higher levels mana will be a problem
and it will happen quite often that you run out of it before the run is done and can not really help any more.

im fighting with this as well

still keep forgetting about it and wonder where my healing stays
but its much easier to use this way though (if one finally remembers where to put the fingers)
