I am sad to hear it, however I AM slightly a computer whiz, if you PM me the situation and what you think happened, I can do my best to help you out.

could you tell me what your comp does?

does in boot?
or does it do nothing at all?

I know some stuff too :P

It is a 9 year old Compaq (partners comp)...
Black background with the logo: Compaq
Press F1 for ?? and F10 for ?? (srry forgot the wording)

They do nothing... just sits there trying to boot something... but nothing is happening...
I do not want to go into the diagnostics... I was going to clear the harddrive and re-install everything.
but once again we do not have the discs to even try and do that

Thank you guys for your help... maybe you can give me some other easier option to deal with this before I
take the Sledgehammer out and smash it to bits (NOTE... I am not that insane... I promise  )

I am glad SOMEONE got my FF joke :P

This may sound silly, but do you have a stuck key? Try unplugging the keyboard/mouse, then turning on the ol' compaq. Sometimes if a key is stuck it will cause them to go haywire. Worth a try. Only other thing that comes to mind is a hard drive failure, preventing windows from loading (I assume you are running windows on a compaq) I can find you a copy of windows that you could burn to a disk and make a bootable install CD, but as far as the "cd key" goes, that's a different story...

F1 is probably the BIOS SETUP, and F10 could be the boot options, or vice versa.

Give me a little more info about it when you can, like what operating system you run (windows 98/ME/XP/HopefullynotVista) and what was the last thing you remember before it did this (did you just turn it on and it was like this, or did it crash/reboot this way?)

I will try to help all I can, been fixing windows boxes for years... even built a few. Current setup I have I built last year, and it has not crashed yet (fingers crossed)

EDIT: As far as the sledgehammer goes, its a good idea, but tossing it out of a 3rd story window is a far prettier sight to see (witnessed this in my 2nd year of college, buddy's computer locked up and he threw it out the window!!!)

Thanks for the info... I will try those things when I get back home... at work now.
I am thinking it is XP... definately not Vista... Vista is what I use at work on my New Comp... (bought package with Vista installed... not pretty)
I do not think I will need to another Windows Operating disc... I have access to like 7 at work (legit ones)... but ty for the offer...
I hope it is a simple "stuck key" or "unplug mouse/keyboard" option... it is Friday here and I want to play on the Comp over the weekend.

Believe me, I have seen a simple stuck key cause a computer to go nuts. Then again, other things can always happen too, but that is an easy thing to try.

Let me know how it goes, and I will try to search for a "legit" windows key for you... just don't tell the FBI.

yeah hopefully it is.. after a hard day of slashing sometimes i forget to take the Duck Tape off from the down arrow on my keyboard, then the next time i boot up my tower makes a shit ton of random fast beeeping noises and will not load windows and the screen blacks out and just continues to click untill i manually turn it back off and remove the tape lol then it loads up fine like it should. :)

gl with that tho hopefully when you diagnose it a little further brodie mite be able to help you out on info.. Dat Kidz Smrt :)
