I have been discussing things with Jesse about you and your monk.

Personally I have played both the Melee / Healer and the Caster / Healer Monk for some time now.
This is what I would suggest for you in the meantime... forget Melee and go with Healing for your group.
At early stages from lvls 1 to 15 or 20, go with casting in group with a little backup heal just in case.
At Higher levels, go pure Healing and attack in-between when group is full of life to keep your actions up.

Pure Intelligence build...
