Story time.
So the Cavs were losing big in the fourth quarter and I couldn't bare to watch that dismantling anymore. So I figured I'd go take care and let out the dog I am taking care of. The owner is on vacation and I'm taking care of his dog wheile he is gone. I go three times a day, before work, after work, and before bedtime. And the owner of this dog happens to be my boss... The Vice president of the company I work at......
Ok anyways, so I leave my house around 10:15 pm, and head over there. I started taking care of him Saturday morning, and it is now Monday night and so far so good. No problems. I get there, say Hi, pet him, and walk outside with him. He's a big dog, a Boxer/Bull mix of some sort. It's night time out, and it's raining out, but I go outside with him anyways to make sure I don't lose him and to always keep an eye on him. Well he started doing his business all was cool. He started to roam to the property boundries and I went and followed him, to make sure he stays in site. Well he ends up getting into the brush in the back, and I start calling him, and he doesn't respond or care. He starts sniffing the ground as if he found something, and disappears into the darkness past the range of the exterior house lights. I go running after him, in the direction I saw him going but just like that he was gone. Had no idea where he went and it is pitch black dark outside, this far away from the house. It is in a semi-residential area. There are neighbors, but all the back yards and just wood. Too make things worse this dog does not have a tag on his collar, so he makes no noise when he is moving and I couldn't here where he was. And to compound it even farther, it is raining outside, I'm getting drenched on, and any possible chance of me hearing him walk on the sticks and the leaves in the back is completely voided because all I here is rain hitting the leaves and rain hitting the ground! AHH, I'm f**ked!!! My Boss's Dog!!!!!!!
Ugh... Well... I ran back to the house and grabbed a flash light and ran back and starting looking and calling his name. "Max!"..."Max!".. Nothing... I'm soaked, its relatively chilly now. Rainy night in Ohio, spring yes, but still like 40 degrees out at night. My anger and panic kept me warm though, so I didn't care. I started going across peoples back yards looking and looking. Nothing. Back and forth to the house to see if maybe the dog went back to the house, like he should. But he hadn't. Well this search mission went on for approx. 1 hour and 30 minutes. In the woods, in the street, in the yards, back and forth, looking, hearing, waiting. The dog ran away on me....
Like I said, about an Hour and a half have just went by. I went to the front of the house again by the street to look up and down the street again. There I am at the end of the driveway... looking... hoping this dog shows up. I keep my ears ready to listen for any screeching tires from a car, any yells from a person, a even a police siren. At this point, I had lost this dog... my boss's dog... and I was expecting the worst. I kept thinking about my job, and what this is going to mean to it. How's this going to effect my job, my trust with my boss (obviously he trusts me to give me the key to his home while he is on vacation), I was scared. I didn't know what to do.. Should I call the cops now and put in a missing dog report? That thought kept coming to my mind. Maybe someone saw him, or maybe he was caught already. It's approaching 2 hours now and as I am going up and down the street in front of the house... I see him!!!!!!! The dog was about 500 feet infront of me crossing the road. I started into a mad sprint towards him calling his name. Probably a bad move... Some big figure running at him at night obviously spooked him. When he saw me running after him, he turned and started running away from me. Shit!!! He went back across the street (the correct side), up some persons driveway, and disappeared back into the woods... OMG!!!! NO!!!!!!
I ran up this guys driveway yelling Max's name again. Lost him... again. But he is alive, he is out there, and I did feel better. The angle I had chased him put him running towards the house. So I felt it was time to run back to the house and see if maybe he is waiting for me in the back ready to go inside. I ran back to the house, up the driveway, and around to the back....There he was. Waiting outside the door. I ran up to him, opened the door, yelled at him, put him in his cage, and left.
This won't happen to me again. I'm putting some sort of bell or something on this dogs collar so I can hear where he is next time. I felt I was very careful not to let him out of my site, and he is trained to just go outside, and do his busniess without a leash, but he must of seen me as an oppurtunity to explore while his owner wasn't around and was like, "F this Newb... I'm going exploring!".
So I got back home a little after midnight, sat down on my computer and wrote this. Completely relieved and happy that my job is safe, my dog is safe, and tomorrow when I wake up and before going to work I get to stop by and take him out again. But this time, in daylight and without him leaving my site.
Hope you all enjoyed my story. I have a feeling this is going to be too long for 1 post. Might have to break this up.
Good Night UA.
the dog probably realized its too cold, so im going to beat my old man back there and wait at the door...but he had to make you worry a little
