I'm a friend, even though that's irrelevant...
Him trying to sell them, and then seeing that he'd made an error and giving them back wouldn't be greedy at all.
It'd be the same if he sold them for a reasonable price, not knowing they were property of the guild, and then gave the guild the fg back. Neither of the situations portrayed greed IMO. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/greedy to refresh your definition of greed.
