first and foremost, NEVER CRACK OPEN THE CASE OF A HARD DRIVE!!!!
This is a horrible thing to do, the harddrive is air/water tight from the factory for a reason. The distance from the head of the hard drive "needle" to the platter is around 2nm, and your average dust particle is around 20nm. If a piece of dust enters your hard drive case it will cause a head collision and ruin the entire drive. If your hard drive is dead then buy another one, or try to get a manufacturer warranty on it if its within the timeframe. Taking a hard drive apart will not fix any problems but only cause more. The reason you cant get the screw out is because it was never meant to come out
if you're just trying to get the screws out that hold the hard drive in the bay its in, then try this. If the end of the screw is a hex shape, try using a nut driver to unscrew it, this gives more points of contact than a philips head and if its rounded out it may be the only way to get the screw out. Vise grips work well but make sure they're super tight onto the head of the screw before trying to turn it out. I would stay away from WD40/PB Blaster for the simple fact itll make a huge mess and prolly wont help too too much. If its good and rounded, put the comp on something hard and sturdy and push down super hard into the screw then try to twist it out.
wd40 does work well, but you need to let it settle and use minimal amounts applied carefully to the area you are wanting to use it on
##think i will remove my business website from jsp tbh... somehow think i may get spammed emails and phone calls tbh##
agreed on the dont open the hard drive, its only viable to do so if you feel its a last option, otherwise leave it and dont touch it. try going down a DIY store too and asking for a small TORX bit screwdriver, this may be something that jordan was on about
