Okay.... who knows the difference between HDMI 1.3, 1.4, and 1.4a cables?

I believe that the HDMI 1.3a sound system does not read any content off the HDMI connection. This means it simply will pass through any video and audio content on to your display or projector. It acts as a switch and nothing more. To get audio out of the system's speakers, you need an analog (red/white) or digital (coax or optical) connection separate from the HDMI cable to do that. An example of a Onkyo receiver with this feature set is the TX-SR307.

I believe the HDMI 1.4a sound system does read content off the HDMI connection. It can intercept the audio portion of the signal, decode it and send it to the system's speakers. It also passes along the video content to your display. You have no need to include separate audio connection. This would be like the new TX-SR308.

To get video and audio from your Wii on either of the above receivers, you will need to run component video to your display and audio connection to your receiver. More expensive units will take the component video and upconvert it to HDMI (they call this 'analog upconversion') so you don't need to component to your HDTV.

i can get one more climb in tonight if anyones down lmk
