Actually the normal way is to get your apprenticeship.. get enough hours for your first year, do 8 weeks of school, take apprenticeship exam, and then get your first year done. Rinse and repeat until journeyman status (4th year). Then after that, there's a certification called Red Seal, which basically allows you to work all over Canada.
I, however, was lucky enough to be part of the select few who got in with a program sponsored by Finning (idk if you have that where you are) and as long as students maintain 80% + and stay with Finning for 2 years, we're provided with a $10,000 toolbox. I also don't have to pay for any fees such as books or PPE. Only tuition and rent!
