So today is a happy dayYesterday i finally got my letter (or email) of acceptance for a Masters of Applied Science (Masters in mechanical engineering). Today i'm doing all my registration stuff. Its nice to finally be able to tell people exactly what i'm doing in the fall. For those that don't know i just graduated with a bachelors of mechanical engineering in April. With that i spend my final years big project studying the hydrodynamics of a sprint canoe blade. I have been racing sprint canoe since i was about 8 years old so naturally this really interested me. Getting to the end of the school year my supervisor professor approached me with the idea of continuing this project for a masters. Naturally i was excited by the idea. Pretty much the first thought that came to mind was "I can get a masters studying something that i absolutely love to do". Since that original conversation i have been talking to my professor all summer and we have gone and approached third parties to inquire about getting funding. This has included Canoe Kayak Canada (the organization in charge of sprint canoe) and Own the Podium (an organization that was set up to fund athletes, coaches, and sport research projects for the 2010 Winter Olympic and from its success has only increased its level of funding). Instantly both organizations expressed interest in the projects idea and since then Own the Podium has confirmed that they can fund the project. I am still yet to complete a final proposal and sign a contract but unless there are any major disasters this should go through. With this my immediate though changed from "I can get a masters" to "I can get paid to get a masters studying something i absolutely love to do." At this point i can say i am living the dream
Oh and i'd like to point out, this is all coming from somebody that up until about a month before school ended was saying "there is no way in hell i would do a masters or stay in school for anything else, I'm done." Its simply amazing the things that can happen!!! Dana I'm so happy for you, congratulations on the acceptance and way to go on the funding for it!!!
