Would a bad motherboard battery cause my computer to not post?

I hard reset my CMOS by taking the jumper off the 1 and 2 pins, put it on the 2 and 3 pins for 30 seconds, then back to the 1 and 2 pins, but my computer still won't post.

Should I buy a new motherboard battery and try again? (Yes, I removed the battery as well, and put it back in, to see if that helped, and it didn't. I did my hard reset of the CMOS with the battery out)

If anyone could help me that would be fantastic!

how old is your pc, because those batteries last long long son? Not posting would indicate a faulty power supply, faulty memory or a faulty mainboard usually :)

The computer in question here is from 2004, so ~7 years old. And the past ~2 years, it sat without being turned on. (Because this problem happened back then, and I had it sitting forever since it didn't post, and now I am finally getting around to trying to figure out what is wrong with it.

The fans turn on, but nothing loads. Dead blank black screen.
So if the fans turn on, the power supply has to be okay?
I re-seated the memory sticks, didn't help.
Really hoping it's not the motherboard -.-

it's most likely the motherboard in this case, if you can try and test the powersupply on a different pc?

Jim i had the EXACT same problem with my computer if you remember. thats why i started using my laptop.

There is only 2 things you can do here.

A: If you havent tried reseating your CPU then take the heatsink off the CPU and check if theres any dust or w/e on the CPU and brush it off the CPU and the Fan. buy some more thermal paste if theres none left and put your fan back on your CPU and boot the comp. (This has worked for some people)

B: Buy a new motherboard. Only other way lol. i had to get a new Mobo for my comp.

a Faulty powersupply would still boot the POST most of the time but would then automatically shut down after or youd get a BSOD
