Okay so, can anyone explain this to me?

2-2 on CTF Pit in MLG. They have our flag at their plat, I spawn, grab rockets, pick up the double kill to stop the flag, another guy comes, and tries to cap it, I stop him as well.
The flag is now about 3 feet away from capping it in their objective, another guy comes up, picks flag, and I assassinate him, but it doesn't connect, and they win?

Kind of lame IMO.
