You don't get a virus for any other reason other than downloading something or opening up a file that is malicious or visiting a malicious site.
Learn to use the internet, and look at the virus identification, it says Trojan Agent. A trojan is a virus that hides itself in a file or is a file that looks legitimate but it isn't.
The bold is probably what he did.
Everytime you visit a website, you download all kinds things without your knowledge. That's what loading a site is. For example downloading images when you visit a site.
A website can make your browser do all kinds of things, including downloading a virus and/or trojan. And, among other things, a website can forward your IP to numerous other sites which can do the same thing.
It is quite possible to exploit bugs and holes in browsers with malicious software, and then inturn get caught with a virus. In "Theory" you should be safe when not manually downloading something, but in "Practice", it is not the case.
E: You can do a google search on it, and see it is quite possible. That's what I did.
E2: You're too nice Nick.
