besides, in this game consistency isn't as good as people think...
if you think wisely, with simple math, wide dmg makes you pass the defense of mobs easier, for example:
example 1: mob with 50 defense (let's suppose fixed defense)
-axe with 75 avg dmg , you hit 3 times for 65dmg, 75dmg, 85dmg

you will cause a total 15+25+35 = 75dmg
-sword with 75 avg dmg, you hit 3 times for 35, 75, 115

you will cause 0+25+65 = 90dmg
example 2: mob with 70 defense, same hits:
-axe, 0+5+15 = 20dmg
-sword, 0+5+40=45dmg
example 3: mob with 90 defense, same hits:
-axe, 0+0+0=0dmg
-sword 0+0+25=25dmg
of course a lot of more things are involved on this calculus, but this is a simplified version
same happens to ice and lightning charms... lightning are by far the best charms available, being wind second best
