The Recent Topics/Posts option is useful for those wishing to inquire about someone's posting habits. For example, guild owners want to make sure that the person they're letting in meets expectations. Recent posts/topics is a great way to figure out whether or not the user meets expectations for recruitment.
I truthfully find no harm in letting others see my recent posts and topics. If they truthfully wish to be impudent, fine, just report it and move on. If there is persistence, collect the topics and message an appropriate staff member. But I also believe that if you are good-mannered, then others will be good-mannered to you as well. So, following the rules and staying positive with all of your posts won't prompt for anyone to be rude to you. And as for your statement about privacy, seeing your posts and topics isn't an invasion of privacy. The threads and posts are already visible to everyone already, so it doesn't really matter if your posts and threads are discovered via your profile or via browsing the actual forums. Either way they are up for public view.

You should have added a poll, by the way.
